How Kristen Corrects-Edited Books are Promoted

I’m totally onboard with the clients and projects I take on—which means I’m not just the book editor, but I also champion the books I edit by including them as part of my portfolio, my website’s Latest News page, and my social media channels. You can see examples of the things I share on my Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram pages.

Every week on my social media pages I share pictures, links, and reviews of books I have edited, and am always happy to help promote books I’ve edited in some capacity. When it comes to marketing your work, every little bit helps, and I’m proud to share, show off, and talk about books I’ve edited.

Book promotion is one of the perks I include for free in any editing service I provide. Here’s how I help boost authors I work with.

1. PROMOTIONAL POSTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

I include a hodgepodge of promotional posts on my TwitterFacebook, and Instagram pages:

2. BOOK UNBOXING video & picture

If you send me a copy of your book, I take a picture with the book and share it on my social media pages (see my The Book + The Editor album). I also create a Book Unboxing video when opening the package.

Both the video and the picture tend to get pretty good reception and engagement, especially on my Facebook page. Send me an email if you’d like your book to be featured as part of the Book Unboxing lineup.

3. LATEST NEWS PAGE

I keep a running list of recently released books under the Book Announcements section on my website’s Latest News page, and will feature your book in the months after it’s released. These books are featured in chronological order.

4. AWARD-WINNING & BEST SELLING BOOKS FEATURED PAGE

Winning an award or notable recognition is huge. If your book wins or receives an honorable mention in a contest, reaches a Top 20 position on an Amazon bestseller list, or is recognized in some other cool way, I’ll promote your book in the following ways:

  • I talk about your book’s recognition on my social media pages (see example)
  • I add this news under the Latest News section on my website
  • I add your book to the Award-Winning & Best Selling Books page on my website
  • I include your book on the bottom of my website‘s main page for a time until it is replaced by another book. All books are featured chronologically

5. FEATURED IN BLOG POSTS & VIDEO PRESENTATIONS

I occasionally write blog posts featuring lessons authors can learn from books I’ve edited, such as in the blog 8 Ways to Vary Sentences in a Novel. I rely on books I’ve edited for examples to use in my blog posts, and include links to the published books.

I also create video presentations regularly, such as my How to Write Eloquently talk, where I use examples from past clients’ books. I rely on books I’ve edited for examples to use, and give credit with the book title and author name in my presentations.

HOW TO ENROLL

Book promotion is one of the perks I include for free in any editing service I provide. In the project contract I sign with authors, the “Portfolio” clause states that I’ll provide a link to published work on my website and social media pages. As long as you agree to this, you’re in!

I try to keep abreast of any news or recognition for books I’ve worked on, but obviously some things will slip through the cracks, so once your book is published, feel free to email me with good news (reviews, author interviews you’ve done, and so on) and I’ll share to my social media pages.

Many of these posts are put into rotation and shared regularly. I typically share posts that are most popular in terms of likes, link clicks, comments, and shares more frequently.
